History
Demyx's background is extremely vague, perhaps even entirely unknown.. He is ranked IX in a group of Nobodies - beings with no hearts nor emotions - called Organization XIII and is known as the “Melodious Nocturne.” Based on his powerful "emotional" displays, it can be presumed he was most likely a passionate young man with a strong heart.

We met Demyx the first time in the Underworld. Sora was looking for a mysterious black-cloaked thief, which turned out to be Demyx. He stole an important medallion known as the Olympus Stone that helped a Hero to maintain his powers while in the Underworld. Without it, Heroes were rendered weak and defenceless. Demy’s “introduction” was running past Sora and his crew yelping "Run, Run away!" which needless to say baffled Sora. When he eventually caught up to Demyx, he appeared to be reading out cards given to him by Xigbar regarding his mission. He was openly unpleased and careless about his duty. Sora was once again stumped and surprised by the young man‘s behaviour, not sure what to make of this odd Nobody. Demyx referred to Sora as "Roxas", pleading him to return to the Organization. They fought and Sora won for now, at which point Demyx escaped swiftly.

The second encounter was in Hollow Bastion during the battle with 1000 Heartless. Sora had now gained a lot of confidence around Demyx and seemed to doubt him being a threat. Demyx greeted Sora and his comrades somewhat casually, which was only met with hostility The Keyblade Master told Demyx that he was probably incapable of fighting and referred to him as a "kook." At first, Demyx kept his composure and tried his utmost to remain laid back. It was after Sora remind him that he had no heart that Demyx's friendly façade faded. He darkly challenged Sora one last time, giving one heck of a fight, although he wasn‘t particularly skilful. Sora won and an incredulous Demyx finally faded to darkness...

Personality
Like all Nobodies, Demyx has no heart and therefore can't feel, though his "emotional" displays are very convincing.

Demyx seems to be a very approachable Nobody, much unlike others of his species and within Organization XIII. He generally has a low intimidation factor and prefers to flee rather than engage in physical combat. He can come across as cowardly, but will fight when absolutely necessary, don't be mislead. He values his Sitar deeply, which he uses in battle and can play extremely well. The musical instrument is his best friend, his only possession and his prized one at that. It’s evidence that he has a “passion” of sorts for music. Evidently, the Nocturne takes some pride in his appearance, with his well-styled hair being the giveaway factor here. A combination of a Mohawk and a Mullet, Demyx’s hairstyle is “affectionately” named “The Mullhawk.” This hairdo is kept in check and Demyx is also generally well-groomed overall. He can seem rather absent-minded, often seduced by tempting daydreams and idealistic fantasies. However, this does not mean he's in any way stupid either, though he is not the smartest nor the strongest. His element is water, which he uses to the fullest. He has a habit of saying "Dance, water dance!" during battle, not the toughest catch phrase to have. He thinks highly of himself, yet he is awkward and sometimes clumsy.

Demyx for the most part has a positive, bubble attitude, which are both very unusual traits for an Organization member to have, making him one of the more quirky characters. However, despite having a rather goofy façade, he is in fact a thoughtful young man, often trying to hide any deep concern he has for his existence. Despite this, the mask clearly can be put aside...As observed in Hollow Bastion.

Unlike most Organization members, Demyx is treated with little respect by other Organization members or by Sora. He's often taken aback by this but his cheerful demeanour doesn't falter, after all he's pretty used to it and he seems quite fond of himself. He often tries to convince himself he has a heart and can feel to make his existence as a Nobody a little easier, even though he knows the truth. He lacks respect for his superiors and their orders. You could even say he performs his tasks “half-heartedly.” ~~Sucky joke sucks.~~ The Nocturne can certainly talk the talk, but he can’t always walk the walk. His self-praise is probably one of the aspects that lead to his downfall to begin with.

Demyx’s attribute within Organization XIII is to control water. He manoeuvres water mainly using his Sitar. The water he controls can also form shapes, such as those of music notes and even clones of himself, which move to the beat of the music he produces. The Sitar itself is not used for physical combat much except for very close range attacks occasionally, and it’s doubtful that Demyx would want to risk damaging it to begin with. He commands Dancer Nobodies; slender, pink creatures that move rhythmically on the battle field ~~and are really hard to strike sometimes, by the way~~. He can seldom become distracted during battle, which leaves him open to attack for a time.

Demyx has dirty blond hair which is styled in a fashion which he has affectionately dubbed a "mullhawk." His eyes are a piercing teal and are as deep as the water he possesses the ability to wield. Like all Organization members, he is clad in black. His frame is lithe and petite.
Demyx has the ability to make water clones and manipulate water however he likes to his advantage, often using his Sitar. He often underestimates his physical abilities. There is speculation about his friendship with Xigbar, but there is evidence in the manga that they have some sort of brotherly bond. Xigbar tends to look out for the boy. If you upset Dem, you‘ll have a gun rifle and an infuriated sniper to answer to.
